How do you make botanical contact prints?
Michelle chooses leaves from the landscape that she is inspired by, then places them on heavy 100% cotton printmaking paper which is then rolled up into a tight bundle around a PVC pipe and simmered in water with rusted objects to release the natural dye from the leaves onto the paper. It's a magical process and each print is one of a kind.

About the artist
Michelle is an experimental printmaker with a passion for working with materials from her environment to provide a deeper connection to Darumbal Country where she lives and works. River sediment, saltwater, sand and vegetation are some of the materials used to create marks in her works. Michelle has a strong interest in linking science with art and responds to the environment and the landscape, often using data and local history in the narrative. Michelle’s print techniques regularly use non-traditional materials and processes, pushing boundaries, rarely conventional.
